Chinese Art and China Today

PHOENIX - Xu Bing

Chongqing-born artist Xu Bing is one of the leading forces in Chinese contemporary art, previously acclaimed for his “Where Does The Dust Itself Collect?” artwork, created from the dust of 9/11. His new work, “Phoenix,” is an examination of modern China’s rapid economic growth and modernization, made over the course of two years from scrap metal accumulated from urban construction sites across China. “Phoenix” is currently on display at the MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts.
